Jon Ewer

Jon is a Chartered Civil Engineer, a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand, and retired 2 years ago as a Senior Technical Director of a consultant engineering company. He is a member of the Institute of Directors and have experience in governance. He has been involved in large infrastructure projects both here in New Zealand and overseas, having worked in places as diverse as East Africa, Australia, Borneo, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, the Middle East, Great Britain and throughout the Pacific. Jon first discovered Waiheke whilst sailing in the Hauraki Gulf in 1994 and promptly fell in love with the island. In 1999 he and his wife bought a small block above Onetangi where they established a three-hectare vineyard. The next ten years were spent developing viticultural skills at weekends – as well as working on the improvement of his palate for fine wine.

He feels fortunate to be invited to join the Board of Sculpture on the Gulf in 2013 where he helped to organise the 2015 and 2017 events. He had some years before chaired the Wairoa Arts Council, and has been committee member of the Waiheke Community Art Gallery for 10 years. He is Secretary of Waiheke Rotary Club and a Board member of the Waiheke Golf Club. He understands the unique needs of volunteer-run organizations and a strong commitment to community arts.

He feels it is a privilege to be involved with the committed and professional governance team of the Artworks Theatre.
