The Pinter is one of Artworks Theatre’s hidden gems - a welcoming and versatile foyer space designed to bring people together before, during, and beyond performances. Whether hosting a small meeting, presenting an intimate performance, gathering with friends, or enjoying a drink and conversation before a show, The Pinter offers a relaxed and character-filled setting.
With cosy bench seating, warm timber finishes, and a relaxed bohemian atmosphere, the space accommodates up to 40 seated guests or 80 standing, making it ideal for a wide range of community and creative uses.
Connected to a small kitchen, The Pinter can also support pop-up dining experiences, catered events, or food service by visiting vendors during performances and special events.
Where did the name come from? The Pinter is named in honour of Harold Pinter (1930–2008), one of the most influential playwrights of the twentieth century. Known for his sharp dialogue, subtle tension, and exploration of power, memory, and human relationships, Pinter helped redefine modern theatre.
His work became known for what critics often call “Pinteresque” - moments of everyday conversation layered with silence, ambiguity, humour, and underlying unease. His most celebrated plays include The Birthday Party, The Homecoming, and Betrayal.
Like the space itself, the name reflects theatre as more than performance alone - a place for conversation, connection, and the moments that happen in between.
