We welcome you to E tipu E rea, this years Motu Matariki Festival presented by Tū Rongo Collective.
A communal opportunity to delve deeper into sacred indigenous teachings through the lens of “theatre”.The first segment will be a demonstration by Waiheke adults who will deliver their learnings from their training with Tū Rongo which has occurred over the past month.
Following the showing, Tūrongo Collective will perform an excerpt from their performance: NOHOPUKU~ to sit, to think, reflect and contemplate. The multi-media performance segment is in response to the youth and children inside mental institutes, youth juvenile facilities and schools often unheard and unseen but diagnosed with titles that belittle their true power and potential.
“It left me feeling teary-eyed, heart pounding and emotional”-Basement Theatre audience member
The festival is moulded with an intention to heal, support and grow with others, inside of conscious acknowledgement of where we sit on the Earth. Each night will be followed by live music, hot chai, Māori bread and hangi on the Saturday.
